Frequently asked questions
Can you tell me who owns an account?
No, and neither can anyone else. Account holder names are protected banking data. IBANEX tells you whether the number is correctly formed and which bank issued it — never who is behind it. Any service claiming otherwise is not being honest with you.
Does a valid IBAN mean it's safe to pay?
It means the number is real and belongs to a bank. It does not mean the person asking for the money is trustworthy. Fraudsters use real accounts. Treat the check as one signal among several, not as a guarantee.
What does it cost?
Checking the format, the country and whether the IBAN is in the SEPA area is free. You only pay when we identify the issuing bank and its BIC/SWIFT. If we cannot identify it, you are not charged.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no password and no email required. The app works straight away.
Which countries are covered?
Format validation covers the 89 countries in the official IBAN registry. Bank identification depends on each country's public banking data and is available for most of them.
A valid IBAN confirms the format and the bank, not that the account exists or who it belongs to. IBANEX does not make payments and is not a financial institution.
